Dear Participants of the graduate students' reading seminar, Our vanocni besidka (Christmas party) will take place in the traditional-type Czech pub Restaurace u Veverky (near Hradcanska metro station) https://www.uveverky.com/kontakt/ on Thursday Dec 15th from 7:15pm. Hi all, Just a reminder: this Thursday we will have next edition of "doktorandsky seminar". As announced on https://kam.mff.cuni.cz/~dsemweb/, our speaker will be Jan Soukup and he will talk about paper Twinwidth of planar graphs is at most 8 by Petr Hliněný and Jan Jedelský. (https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.08620) This will be a treat to both the mathematicians among us (nice proof about planar graphs) and as well to the computer scientists (twin width is a recently defined parameter that seems to become a central part of theory). Dear all, 1) just a reminder, this week there is no seminar, as Thursday is a state holiday. 2) next week, we will have Aneta and graph coloring, more detailed info will come early next week. 3) last but not least: as Christmas is approaching, we are thinking of organizing seminar pub night -- a dinner in some nearby restaurant for seminar attendees (and friends). (We have no funds to pay for this though, so everybody is on his/her own.) Hi all, This Thursday, instead of the regular seminar meeting, there will be PhD thesis defense of Michal Opler. Same place (S8), starting time 10:40. The typical duration is <= 30 minutes talk, <= 30 minutes discussion, <= 30 minutes official stuff (reading the reports etc.), so we should end by the usual time. The title of the defense is "Structural and Algorithmic Properties of Permutation Classes". However, everybody should come just to see what a defense looks like (and to support Michal). If you are interested in playing ping-pong before the defense, come at the usual time 9:50 to the usual place (S8). You can choose whether you will say a few words about the motivation for the area of research, your past results, or the problem you are currently working on.
