DiGeo: Fundamental questions of discrete geometry

Open positions

Two postdoc positions in discrete geometry and related areas are available at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, Prague.

Position Details

  • Starting date: January 1, 2026 (negotiable)
  • Duration: One year with a possibility of extension of another year
  • Salary: 64,000 - 68,000 CZK/month + health insurance covered

The positions are supported by the five-year project "DiGeo: Fundamental Questions in Discrete Geometry" (2023-2027), funded by the Science Foundation of the Czech Republic. Travel funding is also included.

Research Areas

The project focuses on problems in discrete geometry and related fields, including:

  • Convexity questions for point sets
  • Visibility
  • Graph drawing
  • Crossing numbers of graphs
  • Semialgebraic hypergraphs
  • Delauney graphs

Team members include Martin Balko, Vít Jelínek, Jan Kratochvíl, Jan Kynčl, Maria Saumell, Pavel Valtr, and a group of PhD students.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree obtained before the starting date and no more than 6 years ago.

  • A detailed CV (2-3 pages)
  • A list of publications
  • Proofs of education and awarding of academic titles
  • A list of citations (preferably by WoS); an additional list of citations not included in WoS may be added, but is not mandatory

The applicants must also arrange for 2-3 letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email addresses.
