Dear All,
Let me mention that this week we organize a problem-solving workshop in discrete geometry. Before the noon seminar on Thursday, we will have a PROGRESS REPORT (STARTING 10:45 OR 11). Everybody interested can come to see what problems we consider and what are our results so far. We will still send an info about the exact time and place of the progress report.
Best regards, Maria Saumell, Martin Balko and Pavel Valtr (organizers of the workshop)

Applications of combinatorics to knot theory Gelasio Salazar Universidad Autónoma de San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico June 27, 2024, 12:20 in S8
Abstract If we project a knot to a plane we obtain a 2-dimensional curve, a shadow of the knot. Except for very special cases, a shadow does not determine a knot: in general, more than one knot can be projected to a given shadow. The relevant question is: which properties of a knot can be obtained from its shadow? In this talk we will illustrate how standard techniques from topological and extremal graph theory can be used to investigate this problem. No previous knot theory knowledge is expected from the audience (and very little knot theory knowledge should be expected from the speaker).
