Protein phosphorylation - bioinformatics "twist"
Protein phosphorylation is one the most important post-translational modifications.Fortunately, the amount of experimental data on phosphorylation is steadily growing, bioinformatics can, therefore, provide new insights into regulation and function of phosphorylation.
In this talk, I will present three topics. The first is a secondary structure state of phosphorylated amino acids, the second is a function of phosphorylation in so-called adaptor domains (SH2, SH3 etc.) The last topic will be detailed structural biology and computational biology studies of phosphorylation effects on SH3 domain- ligand interaction. The computational studies of phospho-mimicking and non-phosphorylable mutants of SH3 domain will complement the last topic.
